Bloomberg versus Booker: Find Your Own Voice

Recently I was at a conference that featured Michael Bloomberg and Corey Booker as keynote speakers. Right after each other they each gave a prepared speech on the topic of Israel and the American relationship to the Start Up Nation.

The day before Super Tuesday Bloomberg gave a well thought out well delivered speech. Then Senator Booker took the stage at the Washington Convention Center. He raised the roof at least 12 inches. In a 15 minute speech he preached, proselytized, spoke Hebrew, quoted MLK, and had the audience laughing and crying with him.

I would give both speeches a high mark. They were every different.  It would have been odd for Bloomberg to preach. Booker would have underused his skills to settle for articulate.

Bloomberg and Booker are proof that everyone is charged with finding their voice. Not someone else’s voice, their own voice. And learn to embrace their own skill level.
