The First Night of the Democratic Convention was Owned by a College Student and Daughter

I liked the first virtual convention. I don’t know what the “real” talking heads will say, but I am a head and I talk and I liked it.

I knew about John Kasich and I am in the camp that was glad to see him speak. But I was surprised to see Meg Whitman, an amazingly successful CEO and Republican.

I loved the Governor of Michigan who introduced herself as, that woman from Michigan – a nod to Trump’s continual ridicule of women.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, in her continued plain speaking way, explained her call for unity as, “its how we get stuff done”. Loved it, she had two minutes and in those two minutes she said STUFF.

The very best line of the night was Kristin Urquiza, who said about her dad’s death to COVID, “His only pre-existing condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that, he paid with his life.”

I am not a Bernie Sanders fan, but I felt sincerity, sincerity I did not feel or see in his support of Hillary.  In addition to his talking about Medicare for all and free college for all, he threw out this line, “Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Trump golfed”.

Governor Cuomo waxed scientific and philosopher when he said, “Donald Trump didn’t create the initial division. “The division created Trump. He only made it worse.”

And then came Michelle Obama or Miche, if you read Becoming.  She positions herself as a truth teller by coming out and saying, I HATE POLITICS.

What wife of an elected official says that?

“So let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can. Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. “Can you get any more honest than that?
